In my experience, Central Wisconsin public schools are not promoting condoms or sexual experimentation. In fact, they are advocating abstaining or delaying sexual contact until adulthood, maturity or marriage. The consequences of early sexual contact are being discussed, but I know of no school system “pushing for abortions because ‘babies are a problem and an inconvenience to you’ and teens are watching sex everywhere they look anyways.”

Many, many teens excel in sports, volunteer activities, church activities, academics, and in social situations…they aren’t “watching sex everywhere they look anyways.”

And no where is there an attitude of teens being at fault. Adults certainly worry about protecting teens and helping them make sound informed decisions that enhance their life and health.

You know…..its not even so much the teens fault anymore.
Schools are all for handing us condoms and saying “its ok to experiment honey, go have fun.” School and their programs don’t reveal the emotional consequences of sex, they push for abortions because “babies are a problem and an inconvenience to you,” and teens are watching sex everywhere they look anyways.

The pill who made womens life easy and more healthy had 50 years old now! it sounds great!
The life before this contraceptive pill was very difficult for ladies, they was suffering unwanted pregnancies and the unprotected sex had made their life a strange. the several abortion was affecting womens health and they were helpless also the pregnancies before marriages was creating the major problems in womens life.

Teen pregnancy is not the problem. Unwed mothers is the problem. Current laws make it virtually impossible for a girl under 18 who decides she wants to have sex to get married first. Parents need to teach and laws need to change where girls have the choice if they want to be active sexually. Boys do not get pregnant and should be taught that sex with any girl without concent is rape.

What untrue statements are you refering to? The signs the students are holding up say “God is Prolife” “Mary’s YES to life changed history” and “Pray to end abortion”. I don’t see any statements about FPHS.

It’s so important to get the youth involved with these issues,they will be our future lawyers, doctors, and voters!

These pictures actually scare me. The fact that students are encouraged to protest untrue statements made against FPHS is highly concerning. It shows the misuse of power used by Newman High School-offering extra credit to students to do this. These students should be at home studying, or better yet, researching the truth behind the statements that are being made. That would be a much better use of their time…as well as for all of the other protesters.

Lon, that is a well-reasoned response and defense to the protestors. Not only are they misinformed about the fact that you do not provide abortion services in any way, they are missing the point that you are there trying to PREVENT abortion. They should be supporting you, since it is apparent that in today’s society abstinence programs are ineffective.

Since an op-ed similar to this blog has been printed in the Wausau Daily Herald, the protestors have been courteous and have not obstructed entrances or exits to our clinic. They have also been much more careful not to block visibility for drivers.

Well, Mary, I said that many women expressed a fear of being ‘shouted down’ and here are your comments about people who expressed fear and who may have disagreed with you:

“anti-life”
“killing their babies”
“”unwanted” pregnancies”
“pro-death”

Is it so hard to understand why many women felt they did not want to speak? ‘Shouting’ isn’t just volume.

As I said, everyone will have an opportunity to be heard and the last thing I’m going to say in response to comments like your is that name-calling is not likely to persuade anyone.

Lon and Ann – I would hate to think that the anti-life people were afraid of being “shouted down”. The pro-life people have every right to express their thoughts just as the anti-life people do. If I am comfortable with people killing their babies and avoiding “unwanted” pregnancies by using contraception, I should be proud enough to stand up and voice my opinion just as those who oppose that kind of killing were proud enough to stand up and speak. They too could have just sat down with the fear of being “shouted down”. God bless all those who had the courage to speak up, the pro-life and the pro-death.

It seems odd to me that there are posts on this subject that continue to disappear from this site. What are you afraid of?

If you wanted to have a community forum that expressed women’s opinions and experiences, and you in fact held a community forum that expressed women’s opinions and experiences, then why are you disputing their opinions and ignoring their experiences? And, why are you deleting comments posted to this wall that were made by those who were there the night you asked to hear their opinions and experiences?

It would seem to me that a professional person or organization that is truly out to help women would want to hear all sides so they could better serve the population they seek to “help”. Physicians, nurses and other professional women who spoke at this event weren’t “screaming” as you say, and I don’t remember anybody using intimidation tactics to keep others from speaking.

Not everybody has the same opinion. If this is a problem for you, then perhaps you should not have community forums? Something to think about next time.

Thank you, Ann. I feel that we intended to focus broadly on women’s health issues and that most voices were crowded out by well organized anti-abortion activists. We listened respectfully, but we share your disappointment that others felt they would not be welcome to speak.

Perhaps if “Speak Out” had been sponsored by a more neutral group, the attendees would not have felt the need to express their opposition to the abortions and the other dangerous birth control methods promoted by FPHS.

The FPHS newsletter made one think that this forum was requested by the federal and state government. When in reality, FPHS and AAUW were looking for pro-death input to prove to the government that most women wanted their services. Actually what happened was that the prolife women were in the majority. I expect that none of the women’s testimonies will be relayed to ANYONE!

I attended the event last evening and was excited about the opporunity to discuss women’s health issues. Unfortunately it turned into a rally for the anti-choice movement and the true meaning of the event was lost, in my opinion. I understand the individuals who spoke had a right to do so, but honestly how would anyone who felt differently actually get up and say anything to those who talk about killing babies.

If the abortion topic could have been taken out by some miracle, the event would have been much more successful. I left disappointed. But thankful that we were given an opportunity to share experiences and stories anonymously.

Thank you for FPHS and AAUW for planning the Speak Out.

And how often do we hear of a young mother–beside herself–depressed and commits suicide or is at the brink of that disaster. Or the pregnant woman who can’t see a way out and commits suicide rather than bring another life into the world. Every situation is unique–and health care workers should not be the judge and jury, but provide the necessary services.

It is difficult to imagine the extent of unfortunate situations in which women will find themselves when people realize what this rule change includes.

Already we have patients being told which hospital they are expected to go to for delivery of babies or even for heart surgery, but that is a different story. Now mothers delivering their babies at religiously affiliated hospitals have found out that they cannot get their tubes tied there. With the new rule any medical worker including pharmacists will be able to refuse service no matter what their claimed belief or what the requested service. Think about it!
