On this weeks episode of Below The Waist, we hear from two national advocates in regards to the trend of Abstinence Only Education in this country.

We first hear from James Wagoner, President of Advocates for Youth in Washington DC.  We had the chance to talk at length with James about his work, and the politics that surrounds an issue like Abstinence Only Education.

After James we speak to Jennifer Heitel Yakush, from Catholics for Choice.  Jennifer was at the Silencing Sex Ed panel discussion on April 24th, representing SIECUS at the time.  She has since moved on to Catholics for Choice.

We welcome your comments, and posts about this issue.  You can also find our Podcast on the iTunes Music store.

Contraception Under Attack

Contraceptive Under Attack [15:03m]
Play in PopupDownload (179)

It is not the typical activities of Below The Waist to respond to things that we see on the Internet.  This podcast is a special episode in some ways.  Over the past two weeks we have seen Pill Kills information popping up all over the place.  We obviously watched some of it, and as a result we made this podcast.
The podcast this week speaks to a highly regarded expert in her field, Ellen Butts, in regards to the information put forth in these podcasts.  It is not meant as an antagonizing answer, but rather a demonstration of the actual science involved in this rather than just an allegation.
We look forward to your feedback.

On May 9th it was my pleasure to interview 3 women who were or are teen Mom’s. These women
are courageous and caring and we thank them for agreeing to be on our panel and discuss their
experiences. They hope that their reflections on being a teen Mom will be helpful to teens listening
and allow them to pause and consider what it might be like if they were to become teenage parents.

In this week’s podcast I had the chance to speak to two women engaged in opposite sides of a similar discussion: Judie Brown, of the American Life League, and Cathy Thompson from the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. We asked both of them to tell us what they thought was occurring at the time of the Roe vs. Wade decision 35 years ago and we received two vastly different takes. We also asked them about the future of their movement or cause, and this is what they told us.
