In Support of the Pope
On March 29th, Dr. Edward Green wrote a piece for the Washington Post entitled “The Pope Maybe Right.” We found this position to be compelling given the background and work Dr. Green has had as a member of the Harvard Aids Prevention Resource Project. This position in support of the Pope in Africa was something we needed to ask about to find out if it was a over simplification, or something else. Dr. Green provided a fascinating interview.
In response we had a chance to speak to Serra Sippel of the Center for Health and Gender Equity. The role of CHANGE is to act as a watchdog in this area, and others in regards to American foriegn policy overseas. Serra talks extensively about the role of condoms in Africa, and responds to Dr. Green.
Finally, Lon Newman, the Executive Director of Family Planning Healther Services adds a little bit of perspective as to what comments like this mean, and how they can affect the future.
